The new “selfie generation” has made us more critical of our own appearances than ever before. Whether we believe what the camera says or what the comments section on an Instagram post reads – this can have a massive impact on self-confidence. Many plastic surgeons attribute the rise of social media for the growing demand of nose jobs and facial aesthetic treatments in general. A recent study even shows that a selfie can distort the face showing your nose to appear upto 30% wider!
Though would you go under the knife? Forget the sheer anxiety of surgical procedures, they can be costly, and you may not even like the end result! Non-surgical rhinoplasty is fast becoming a favourite alternative with the demand having increased by 29% in the past year! This temporary treatment, also known as “nose fillers” can be performed in 15 minutes and has virtually no down-time.

So, how does it work?

Instead of shaving parts of your bone and cartilage or removing fat, non-surgical procedures involve injecting fillers to disguise the humps and bumps. Dermal fillers are used to add volume and fullness to the face. Made from hyaluronic acid, this is a naturally found substance that is already present in our skin. The dermal filler is injected via a tiny needle above and below the bump on the nose. The filler is then moulded slightly to ensure the bump has been evened out and that is literally it. Additionally, filler can be added around the tip of your nose to give the overall appearance of a thinner and more refined bridge. Botox can also be injected into the to give a lifted tip from a hooked nose.

Am I suitable?

If you’re not happy with your nose, non-surgical rhinoplasty is a safe, non-invasive alternative to traditional treatments which can last up to 12 months. Perfect for anyone with the following:

  • Hook shaped nose that would like it straightened
  • Small nose to be built up
  • Bump along the bridge of the nose
  • Refinement after previous rhinoplasty
  • Drooping of the nasal tip
  • Noses that would like more definition and a nose tip

How long to recover?

One of the significant advantages of this procedure is that there is virtually no downtime for patients. Most individuals are able to return to their work or daily activities immediately after leaving the practice, which makes it an appealing option for those with busy schedules or commitments. While it is common to experience some slight swelling and tenderness at the treatment site, these effects are generally mild and manageable, especially when compared to the recovery time associated with traditional rhinoplasty.

It’s important for patients to understand that, while discomfort is typically minimal, following post-care instructions is essential for optimal results. One critical guideline to follow is the recommendation to avoid wearing eyewear for two weeks after the procedure. This precaution allows the filler to settle properly and ensures that the results remain as natural and effective as possible.

During this healing period, patients may be advised to refrain from certain activities, such as rigorous exercise or exposure to extreme temperatures, as these can exacerbate swelling or interfere with the settling of the filler. Keeping the treatment area clean and avoiding touching or massaging it can also contribute to a smooth recovery process.

Overall, the convenience and minimal disruption to daily life make this procedure a popular choice for those seeking aesthetic enhancement. By adhering to the recommended aftercare practices, patients can maximize the longevity of their results while enjoying the benefits of a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

How long does it last?

Dermal fillers last between 6-12 months and with repeat treatments or touch ups will last longer. This is dependent on the patient, their age and quality of their skin. As hyaluronic acid occurs naturally, it is bio-compatible and biodegradable and therefore does not harm the body at all. It is broken down and removed naturally. If you find you are not satisfied with the changes, the filler can be dissolved, and you can also have the treatment reversed! This gives it a great safety margin.
