At Crofton Dental Care, we sometimes see patients who have lost multiple upper teeth and are looking for an alternative to removable dentures. In this case, the patient was experiencing difficulty chewing and wanted to explore fixed tooth replacement options.

Following assessment, we discussed the available treatment options and developed a personalised treatment plan involving an AO6 upper arch implant-supported restoration.

Step 1: Consultation

The patient attended a consultation after losing several upper teeth, which was affecting their ability to chew comfortably. They preferred not to wear a removable denture and wanted to discuss fixed implant-supported options.

During the appointment, we reviewed their oral health, discussed suitable treatment options, and answered questions about the treatment process. Following assessment and planning, the patient decided to proceed with an AO6 upper arch restoration.

Step 2: Digital Intraoral Scan

As part of the planning process, digital scans of the upper and lower arches were taken.

These scans provide detailed information that helps support treatment planning and communication between the dental team and laboratory. The information gathered is used throughout the design and planning stages of treatment.

Step 3: Surgical Guide Planning

A custom surgical guide was produced to assist with the implant placement process.

The guide was created using information collected during the assessment and scanning stages. This forms part of the planning process and helps support implant placement based on the patient’s individual anatomy and treatment plan.

Step 4: AO6 Implant Placement Procedure

The AO6 implant procedure was carried out for the upper arch following the agreed treatment plan.

Six dental implants were placed as part of the treatment plan to support a full-arch fixed restoration. Treatment was carried out according to the agreed treatment plan and the patient’s individual clinical circumstances.

Step 5: Temporary Fixed Implant Bridge

Following implant placement, a temporary fixed implant bridge was created as part of the treatment process.

This temporary restoration was designed to be used during the healing phase before the final implant-supported bridge was fitted. The temporary bridge formed part of the planned treatment process while healing and integration took place.

Step 6: Fitting the Temporary Fixed Bridge

Once the temporary bridge had been completed, it was fitted to the implants and adjusted as required.

The patient attended review appointments during the healing phase so the dental team could monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments before planning the final restoration.

Step 7: Final Upper Implant-Supported Bridge

Once the healing phase was complete, the final upper implant-supported bridge was fitted. The final restoration was designed according to the treatment plan developed during the earlier stages of care and replaced the temporary restoration.

The Outcome

This patient’s treatment involved replacing multiple missing upper teeth using an AO6 implant-supported restoration.

The treatment journey included consultation, digital planning, guided implant placement, a temporary restoration, and the fitting of the final upper implant-supported bridge. The completed restoration marked the final stage of the patient’s planned upper-arch implant treatment.

As with all dental treatments, outcomes vary depending on individual clinical factors and treatment needs.
